What is Wear it Purple Day
Wear it purple day is a yearly awareness and viability campaign for the whole community for LGBTQIA+ and straight allies. Wear it Purple Day is on the last Friday in August. The day began in 2010 and is to raise awareness for the young LGBTQIA+ community members who have sadly struggled and for those who have loss of life.
How do I celebrate Wear it purple Day?
Wear it purple is a student run, non-profit organization dedicated to support young people who identify as sexually and/or gender diverse. These students work hard to raise awareness by working with the community, organizations, schools, and workplaces to provide safe and supportive spaces for young rainbow people both in person ad online.
There a plenty of celebrities who show their support to the community such as Casey Conway (former NRL Player), Scott Lee (Australian Actor), Darren Palmer (Influential Interior Designer from the Block), Zendaya (From Euphoria) and Peach PRC (singer, songwriter, social media personality).
Getting Involved in Wear it Purple Day
You can show support to the community in multiple ways from a social media post or a bake sale all the way to an org-wide celebration which sends a viral message to the LGBTQIA+ community that they are all loved and supported.
There’s plenty of ways for you to get involved in the day by asking your workplace or school to get involved by wearing purple for the day whether that be cute fun earrings all the way to getting fully dressed up for the day. You can even post a brightly colored purple post online to show your support to the online LGBTQI+ community with the hashtag #wearitpurple.
Members of the LGBTQIA+ community don’t just need our support on the last Friday in august, be an ally for life and show your support daily. Stand up and speak out for those in need.
